Do I need a blog for my business website?
Probably not. Most small business blogs are abandoned within a few months, and a page of stale posts is worse than no blog at all. Writing helps when you have questions customers actually ask; it does not help as an obligation.
Why most blogs fail
The advice to blog is usually given without a topic, so people write about their industry generally, which nobody searches for. Then it stops, and a visitor lands on a page whose last post is from two years ago and quietly draws a conclusion about the business.
Google does not reward a blog for existing. It rewards pages that answer something people search.
What usually works better
For most local and service businesses, these earn more than any number of posts.
- • A proper page for each service you offer, rather than one page listing all of them.
- • A page for each area you serve, if you genuinely serve them.
- • A prices or how-it-works page, which is what people actually search before enquiring.
- • Answering the five questions you get asked on every phone call.
When writing does help
When you keep answering the same question and can write the answer once. That is a page people search for, and it is useful the day it goes up.
The test is simple: would someone type this into Google? If not, the post will not be found, however well written it is.
Find what is costing you search clicks, then watch the fix work.
VisitorPing reads your own Search Console data for the pages losing clicks, then rings your phone the moment someone lands on your website.
