VisitorPing vs Umami
Umami is open source, lightweight, and free if you host it yourself. For a technical owner who already runs a server, that is a compelling combination and there is little we can say against it as an analytics tool.
What Umami does better
- • Free when self-hosted, with no traffic limits imposed by anyone.
- • Open source, so nothing can be taken away or repriced.
- • Light and fast, with a clean interface.
- • Your data stays on your infrastructure.
What VisitorPing does that it does not
- • No server to run, update or restore when it breaks.
- • Real-time alerts rather than a dashboard.
- • Search Console analysis, which is outside what an analytics tool does.

Which should you use
If you enjoy running your own infrastructure, Umami is excellent and free. If you would rather not think about a database again, that preference is worth paying for — and it is the honest reason most people choose hosted tools.
